Current treatments for this condition include probing of the lacrimal system in children and incisional dacryocystorhinosotomy (DCR) surgery for adults, and as needed for children.

Hernia Mesh

 

Mpathy® Mesh is made from fine monofilament polypropylene, a material which has been used successfully in hernia surgery for over 40 years. The filament is of minimal diameter to provide sufficient bursting strength of 16N/cm, which is the maximum tensile strength of the human abdominal wall. The knit pattern has been designed to minimise the mass and provide maximum porosity, while offering good handling capabilities.

 

Bacteria are between 1-10 microns in size, enabling them to infiltrate all meshes. Infection-fighting cells such as macrophages are of 50 microns or more, which means that microporous meshes (such as those which are tightly knitted) have an increased risk of infection and inhibit effective tissue ingrowth. Mpathy® Mesh has an interstitial pore size of 50-60 microns, allowing optimal tissue ingrowth and reduced risk of infection.
