nasolacrimal blockage. Current treatments for this condition
include probing of the lacrimal system in children and
incisional dacryocystorhinosotomy (DCR) surgery for adults,

Mesh
Mpathy® Mesh is made from fine
monofilament polypropylene, a material which has been used
successfully in hernia surgery for over 40 years. The
filament is of minimal diameter to provide sufficient
bursting strength of 16N/cm, which is the maximum tensile
strength of the human abdominal wall. The knit pattern has
been designed to minimise the mass and provide maximum
porosity, while offering good handling capabilities.
Bacteria are between 1-10
microns in size, enabling them to infiltrate all meshes.
Infection-fighting cells such as macrophages are of 50
microns or more, which means that microporous meshes (such
as those which are tightly knitted) have an increased risk
of infection and inhibit effective tissue ingrowth. Mpathy®
Mesh has an interstitial pore size of 50-60 microns,
allowing optimal tissue ingrowth and reduced risk of
infection.
